Back to school! Summer is fun but I really enjoy the routine and structure that comes with school.  Plus, the weather cools down and so do the weeds!  My garden was such a failure this summer.  I couldn't keep up with it.

First, I got a late start on planting.  Then only half of what I did plant even grew.  I found myself so busy (and strangely tired!) that I hardly spent the time in the garden it required.  August took over my garden with weeds and now I am looking forward to cooler weather.

I did manage to get a couple quilts sewn this summer.

This was my first 60° quilt.  I'm really happy with the way it turned out!

I absolutely LOVE the back!  The colors and quilting look awesome together.  It's posted in my shop.

This other quilt is for my cousins new baby boy.  Mama is a bright and bold sort of woman and I felt these fabrics fit the bill quite well.

I really enjoyed pulling fabrics from my stash for this.  I normally wouldn't match several of them together, but with the combination as a whole I really like the way it came together.  So much so that I will probably be making a couple for my home!

It is back completely with Kona Aqua and bound with Kona Chartreuse. 

Guess what!?  I turn 30 tomorrow.  Crazy, people!

I'm looking forward to my 30's.  No real reason, just seems like a great age.

Another Finish

As much as I enjoyed my short-lived freedom, I like finishing projects even better!  The tutorial for this quilt is on my sidebar. 

This quilt is approx. 36" x 36" and features Heather Bailey prints from her Pop Garden, Bijoux, and Nicey Jane fabric lines.

The colors speak SUMMER to my eyes! 

For the back I used Kona Aqua...serenity.  I love this color!!  I was a little worried about having the whole back be a solid color, but it turned out great.  The binding is a Nicey Jane stripe.

This quilt is currently in my shop.

Finished Quilt

In general, I'm not one to keep a stack of quilt tops hanging around needing to be finished.  I like to complete a quilt before moving on to he next.  However, I have recently sort of "let go" and moved onto another quilt before finishing the last...FOUR TIMES!!!  That's unheard of for me, so I have felt like quite the rebel.  :)  

FREEDOM!!! jk

But I couldn't let it continue for too long.  As I mentioned here, I got to work on finishing them.  This is my Modern Stripes quilt pattern featuring the Flea Market Fancy prints.

I quilted it with an all-over meandering stitch.  Not too dense, so as to be soft and snuggly for a sweet little person.

On the back I used a large floral print with a smaller strip of the the pink eyelet.  Quite frankly, I am not a "floral" fan.  There is not much of it in my stash and I like it that way.  However, there are always the exceptions to the rule.  The FMF bouquet print is one them.  I LOVE it!!  It would be perfect for a sweet little summer dress.

I am also quite taken with the eyelet prints.

my next project

I was asked about putting together a pattern for my half-square quilt that is currently in my shop.  Since a tutorial for this quilt has been on my to do list for a while I decided this was the perfect time to get it done!

As I began auditioning fabrics none of the combinations really sang to me until I came across a few of these Heather Bailey prints. Then, of course, decided to make the front completely from her prints.

Not yet decided on the back but I'm thinking maybe a solid...we shall see.

Twin Wonky Quilts

I finished the second one!  

I really like the quilting on both of them but I think I especially like it on the left.  

I followed the wonky pattern on the front from side-to-side.  I set up the blocks on the back of to line up with the front so they fit nicely into the zig zag quilting lines.  LOVE IT!!!

If I had thought this through a bit better I would have made one for a girl and one for a boy and then kept them for my own little twiners.  I might just have to make another set for them...maybe with my Katie Jump Rope fabric I have been hoarding.  :)  Oh dreamy!

They were made with these delicious Bubblegum Basics fabrics...

I added it to the listing in my shop.

lots of binding!

I had been planning to take off last week for a girl's getaway with a bunch of the ladies on my husbands side of the family.  Unfortunately babysitting fell through and my little people got sick.

In anticipation of a relaxing getaway I whipped up these two quilts (you can see them in my shop) with the intention of binding them during a little down time.  That would have been nice, but I got to sit by my hubby while I finished them instead, which is always my favorite.

Here he is looking awfully sneaky behind that quilt.  I used prints from two Heather Bailey lines; Bijoux and Nicey Jane.  I pieced the back using some of the scraps.  I like how it turned out.  I still need to come up with a name for this quilt.

I do have a name for this quilt though--Building Blocks.  I love, LOVE this quilt!  That red square is a bit of Heather Bailey also, along with some black and cream.

I really like the quilting on this.  Basically I just followed the seam lines which sort of frames the squares.

I also have patterns for both of these quilts in my shop right now.

I really, really like the soft back-and-forth design in the quilting.  I will definitely be using this one again.    This Heather Bailey prints are lovely!

Modern Stripes

This is one of my very favorite quilts...so far.  I finally made the pattern for it and have it available in my shop.

WIP finished!

I have had this quilt top sitting in on my shelf for almost a year.  There was something about it I just didn't like.  I recently showed it to my sister and she suggested I take off the outer border...PERFECT!  I absolutely LOVE it now!  I used my Pinwheel Parade pattern but made it bigger and used wonky pinwheels instead.  

And the back...Oh, the back!  I LOVE the back!  Cute enough to be the front.

The fabric is Wonderland by Momo for Moda.  Isn't it fabulous!  I just added it to my shop.

Here it is!

I had a blue stripe for the binding, but as I was getting ready to stitch it on I just couldn't do it.  It wasn't right.  My sis agreed.  I ordered this orange and couldn't be happier with the results!

I'm thinking I need one for myself my baby.  I LOVE the randomness of it!  It's got the quilt and the pattern over in my shop right now.

Shop Update!!!

I have always loved paper countdown chains.  There is something so fun and exciting about removing a link.  Then another.  And another....  Until finally the big day is here!

When Mr.  Knickers was about two months away from graduating, my boys and I made a huge paper chain to count down to the big day.  My boys loved it!  The same goes for Christmas and birthdays.  Yeah, we love paper chains around here.

Since I adore sewing it only made sense to make one with fabric.  Now I have a few in my shop...

Not only are they a great representation of the excitement and anticipation of a coming event, but they are pretty dang cute too.  Cute enough to keep hanging up as decoration long after the special occasion has passed!

Well, I finished the kits a while ago but FINALLY listed them in my etsy shop.  

Here it is in red/blue/pink...

and again in blue/green/yellow.

These kits are for baby sized quilts...my soon-to-be six year-old still sleeps with his baby blanket this size...so does his 24 year-old auntie, but don't tell her I told you so.  I LOVE that size!  It is easily packed, easily carried by little ones and so. very. adorable!

The coolest part about this whole thing?  I sold one within an hour of posting it.  Can you believe it?  Thank you so much etsy buyer!!!
